Written Review

Welcome everyone, to MyIndie Review Vlog, sponsored by AngerMan Distribution! I’m Asaf Angel from MyIndie Productions and today I’ll be tackling TWO feature length Halloween-themed horror anthologies; 2017’s 10/31 and its 2019 sequel, 10/31 Part II!

Both films are collections of horror shorts to do with the theme of Halloween, directed by a plethora of horror loving filmmakers and presented by Jennifer Nangle a.k.a Malvolia: The Queen of Screams.

Filmmaker, Musician and man of many talents Rocky Gray, who did most if not all of the music and foleys, among other responsibilities for both films, as well as righting the ship as producer, was the one in contact with us regarding the review of both films. Thank you, Rocky, for sharing these projects with us!

First up is 10/31!

As I mentioned just now, the film is a Halloween themed horror anthology, hosted by Jeniffer Nangle a.k.a Malvolia The Queen of Screams, who is responsible for the opening and closing segments.

The Old Hag, directed by Justin M. Seaman, Trespassers, written and directed by Zane Hershberger, Killing The Dance, directed by John William Holt, The Halloween Blizzard of 1991, written and directed by Brett Dejager and The Samhain Slasher, written and directed by Rocky Gray.

Although sharing a theme, each short sports a refreshing style and language of its own. Two which stand out more than others in my opinion, are The Old Hag, for its remarkable production value and precise framing, lighting and rhythm and also Killing The Dance, which possess wonderful flowing camera movement incorporating multiple characters in interchanging moving shots, thus helping build up tension as the plot progresses.

All in all, 10/31 is a fun ride, rich in different perspectives, styles and awesome music score all the way through. Malvolia‘s intro and outro worked marvelously within the theme. Highly recommended to all you Halloween and horror fans!

10/31 scores a 7/10 on the Look at Me, I’m a Film Critic scale!

The film is available for purchase via Scream Team Releasing and Amazon. Links included. Let us know what you think!

Next up is 10/31 Part 2!

Part two was very recently completed and released to Amazon. Along with several faux trailers to start off the anthology, and which added much to its spirit, 10/31 Part 2 was also hosted by Queen Malvolia, who was responsible for the opening and closing segment yet again, titled Malvolia’s Halloween Monster Marathon, created by Jennifer Nangle herself!

The anthology was also comprised of the following shorts: A Samhain Liturgy, written, directed and edited by Tory Van Buskirk, with apperances from actress London Grace and MyIndie featured artist, Tim Novotny, Dead Lift, directed by Stephen Wolfe, Apache Hatchet Massacre II, directed by Max Groah, which felt like a longer faux trailer, but was placed in the middle of the anthology and so I thought it might be worth mentioning, Overkill, written and directed by Drew Marvick and Sister Mary, written and directed by Tory Van Buskirk and starring London Grace.

This sequel felt like a considerable improvement on the original offering with higher quality across the board with its segments. Short films that stood out to me were Dead Lift, Overkill and Sister Mary. Dead Lift offers a haunting sci-fi short, reminiscent of The Twilight Zone series. Overkill is a smart and original short that is also amusingly clever. Sister Mary is a well acted short governed by a story that deals with the philosophies of sin and good vs. evil, the result is a short film with hardly any dialogue that is almost experimental in its style.

All in all, the anthology felt to give more focus on originality and style. A very fun and inspiring view. Highly recommended!

10/31 Part 2 scores an 8/10 on the Look at Me, I’m a Film Critic scale!

The film is available for purchase via Amazon. Link included!
