MyIndie Productions Joins
Dereel Independent Film Festival
as Sponsor!
MyIndie Productions are proud to announce that the company has come on board and joined AngerMan Distribution and Ballarat Wealth Management as sponsors for the Dereel Independent Film Festival, 2019 edition.
The festival, to be held in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, is an event created by AngerMan Distribution CEO, Peter Angel. MyIndie Productions Founder and CEO, Itai Guberman, has assisted on the festival in the past and for this year’s edition was put in charge of the festival’s Facebook social media, in addition to being a member of the selection committee and the festival’s awards judging panel.
According to Guberman, due to his involvement with AngerMan Distribution and the longtime friendship between the two (Peter and Itai), MyIndie coming on board as sponsor was a no-brainer.
Established in 2007, the Dereel Independent Film Festival has showcased films from over sixty countries and six continents. It is a film festival for independent filmmakers, which is run by independent filmmakers. While the festival was created in 2007, it has been on hiatus for the last few years as Peter had to turn his attention to family and career commitments. The desire to help indie filmmakers get more eyes on their work has brought him back.
“We will endeavour to help as many filmmakers as possible get something that helps lend a little cred to their film. Winners of major categories will share in over AU$1,000 worth of prizes.” Peter adds.
Awards will be given in twelve different categories ranging from Best Documentary to Best Horror and Best LGBTQIA. A new award has been recently added to the list, Best Victorian Film, in which four local nominees – After Silence (dir. Peter Kalos), Balloon Ride (dir. Evan Hughes), Humdingers (dir. Alex Campbell) and Sugar Cube (dir. Luke Jacobson) – will be doing battle for the Best of State. An Audience Award might also be added to the list and decided on the day of the festival.
There are 18 countries represented within the 48 selections. Those include: Australia, UK, USA, France, Germany, Canada, Russia, Portugal, New Zealand, Spain, Turkey, Greece, Netherlands, Uganda, Denmark, Japan, Italy and Iran.
As not all selections can be screened at the event due to restricted screen time, the festival is also working with its sponsors to potentially stream some of the films selected online after the festival is held, in order for them to be seen by worldwide audiences and for those who can’t make the trip to Australia. This online screening will be optional for the filmmakers and included with their permission only.
MyIndie intends to continue to work toward trying to help indie artists, and filmmakers in particular, get ahead and find their audience. Guberman adds, “we will attempt to keep encouraging and assisting, wherever we can, to try to bring indie arts and filmmaking to new heights. Our collaboration with AngerMan Distribution and now this year’s Dereel Independent Film Festival, are additional steps in that direction and we hope to introduce more as we go.”
Itai also reminds that both the festival and MyIndie Productions are run by volunteers. MyIndie is headed by Guberman himself and longtime collaborator and writer of this article, Asaf Angel, and the company is always on the lookout for new volunteers to help with the website (writers, interviewers, promoters, etc.) and any additional activity which may help spread the word. Any Melbourne locals who wish to volunteer and help with the festival next weekend, please make contact via the festival Facebook page.
The Dereel Independent Film Festival will take place on Sunday, March 31st, 2019. For more information on selections, nominations, screening schedule, etc., please check the films Facebook page HERE.
Tickets are sold via Film Freeway at US$10 per screening block, HERE or AU$20 at the door.
Any Melbourne locals or anyone in the area at the time, please attend the event and support indie film as well as enjoy some magnificent independent films from all over the world!
