Horror Island Festival
Emerges in Gran Canaria Locale!

The Horror Island Festival is a new horror event which has recently been created, dedicated to showcasing the most exciting, shocking, underground side of cinema. The festival is set to screen Horror and Sci-Fi films, and take place at the fascinating and mysterious island of Gran Canaria!

The festival has just announced its Grand Jurors and is open for submissions via Film Freeway.

Festival director Daniele Arturi is an engineer with a passion for writing. In recent years, he appeared as an Extra in two horror films, namely Tales To Tell In The Dark by MyIndie featured artists, Domiziano Cristopharo and Lorenzo Zanoni, as well as 61: Scorecard Killer by MyIndie featured artists Poison Rouge and Cristopharo.

Arturi then appeared in two more films, this time as lead actor, in The House Guest and Blue Sunset, both directed by Cristopharo.

The first Juror, Domiziano Cristopharo, “The Italian baron of bold, sensual and extreme horror”, according to the international press, is the first Italian director in years to try and revive the erotic/horror film genre. With more than 30 movies to his credit, he probably is the most prolific independent Italian director still active these days.

Arturi and Cristopharo have put this event together in a decision made “to dedicate this festival to the most exciting, shocking, underground side of cinema – the one that involves Horror and Sci-Fi movies, screened into the setting of Gran Canaria, an island as fascinating as it is mysterious!”

Further Special Guest Jurors for the 2021 event include:

Andrea Cavaletto, a critically-acclaimed Screenwriter, known for film scripts including Hidden in the Woods and Dirty Love by Patricio Valladares, Doll Syndrome and Xpiation by Domiziano Cristopharo and Beautiful People (a.k.a. Dead House) by Amerigo Brini.

Nicola Vitale Materi, a film Producer and Screenwriter, currently involved (as a producer as much as screenwriter) in developing film and television projects for international distribution. Materi was recently entrusted with developing the film and television arm of Giunti, Italy’s third-largest publishing group, which embraces all types of publishing and heads a 180 bookshops network in Italy. Materi collaborated with Italian broadcasters such as RAI, Canale 10 and Video Firenze, producing commercials and corporate videos, feature film, web series and short films, some awarded with prizes in renowned festivals.

Last, but not least, Special Juror and Patroness of the event, Mirella D’Angelo, an actress well known for the role of Livia in Tinto BrassCaligula and Circe in Luigi Cozzi‘s Hercules, but consecrated to the Mount Olympus of Horror with her iconic role as Tilde in Dario Argento‘s Tenebre.
