Last Shift (2014)

Film Review

By the Geezer of Oz

“A rookie cop’s first shift in the last night of a closing police station alone turns into a living nightmare.” (IMDb)

A tense, suspenseful horror that, while not reinventing the genre in any way, still has a little bit of everything.

A great effort for director Anthony DiBlasi. The production value is above average, the performances are effective and the tension remains palpable throughout.

Julianna Harkavy (To Write Love on Her Arms, Tv’s Arrow) works perfectly in the main role. Joshua Mikel (best known as the nasty Jared in TV’s The Walking Dead), Hank Stone (Legion of the Dead, The Punisher, Cassadaga), J. Larose (Saw III, Saw IV, Insidious, The Summoning, Abbatoir) and Natalie Victoria (Deadheads, Abstraction, Chemical Peel) also appear.

I did not expect a lot going in, so this one was a pleasant surprise. The suspense starts from fairly early on and grips you all the way to the end.

Very entertaining and highly recommended. 7.5/10.
