Life (2017)
Film Review
By the Geezer of Oz
“A team of scientists aboard the International Space Station discover a rapidly evolving life form, that caused extinction on Mars, and now threatens the crew and all life on Earth.” (IMDb)
To me, this film felt like a pedestrian effort to create something in the ilk of the Alien film series. While it has a very capable cast and an above decent budget (US$58 Million), it just fails to connect.
Director Daniel Espinosa (Safe House, Child 44) simply fails to bring an unoriginal and terribly flawed script to, pardon the pun, life.
The cast, featuring Jake Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko, Zodiac, Source Code, Prisoners, Enemy, Nightcrawler), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, The Girl on the Train, The Snowman, The Greatest Showman), Ryan Reynolds (Blade: Trinity, The Amitiville Horror 2005, X-Men: Wolverine, Buried, Safe House, Deadpool), and Hiroyuki Sanada (Sunshine, The Wolverine, 47 Ronin), all do an admirable job, but still cannot save this lacklustre effort.
Without spoiling anything, I’ll just add that the ending did not work for me at all.
Terribly disappointing. 5/10.
