to Resume Production August 17th!

Normal Terror, the upcoming independent horror feature from MyIndie featured artist, U.S. indie filmmaker Sam Mason, is about to resume production. Sam has been tirelessly working on getting this film made for some time, being the sole driving force behind it. Sam wrote, stars, produces and directs the film.

He explains, “I began principal photography on March 20th, 2018. As an indie filmmaker, you don’t always have people throwing money at you. Honestly, when I first started, that is what I thought was gonna happen. I was sadly mistaken. So I found a couple of investors, and shoot when I’m able. I still work a full-time job, and do side work, plus we have the podcast now (Sacrificial Terror Podcast with co-hosts Rheanon Nicole and Lance Wagner), so my heart is full, my circle is small and my dreams are coming true. Not as quickly as I had hoped, but nothing worthwhile is easy.”

So while the excitement and drive are there, in indie filmmaking things rarely go exactly according to plan. While Sam would have liked to have been in post-production editing by now, the road is still long. He adds, “we have about 30% in the can, we were going to try for a Halloween release, but won’t be able to make that deadline. We are going to attempt to have principal photography done no later than Halloween and send it to post with an expected release date early 2020.”

Yet even with the delays, Sam understands that indie filmmaking is a journey as well as a destination, with much to experience along the way. “The shooting thus far has been phenomenal, my cast and crew are exceeding my visionary expectations by far and everyone we add to the cast and crew, I expect will excel that much more.”

The story of Normal Terror follows Sam Neal, by day a single father, doing his best to take care of his son, struggling to get by. Yet by night, after putting his son to bed, man becomes monster. Sam abducts, tortures and kills his victims and for no apparent reason. Each is different, no particular M.O. Sam is a new breed of serial killer.

Sam has been developing the story in his twistedly creative mind for a number of years and is now inching closer to realizing his dream of seeing Normal Terror on the big screen. All this is done under Sam’s own production company, Sacrificial Pawn Productions.

While most indie filmmakers have come to terms with the fact that their films might be screened in festivals and special screenings, they do also understand that the reality of the market dictates that the best they can expect past those screenings is a physical release (DVD/Blu-ray) and online VOD release. Sam remains optimistic and has not given up on his film hitting it big and getting into cinemas. “The plan for Normal Terror is a full theatrical release. I think with the original concept and artistic viewing it’s perfect for what horror has been missing. After theatrically releasing, I’m not quite sure as yet how we’ll move forward, but I’d like to see DVD and VOD releases as well.”

Filming will resume on August 17th, with scenes shot with Sam and his co-star and real-life son, Sammy Mason. They are scheduled to be completed by the following week. Then, another batch to commence on September 1st, involving a scene with actress Shaina Jacobs.
A couple of recent announcements from the production have included the addition of Julie Anne Prescott to the cast, as well as welcoming Tyler Shea Cone onboard as an executive producer for the project.

Exciting times ahead for the Normal Terror camp. We are looking forward to additional updates, as well as to seeing the film in the near future!

Congratulations, Sam and Team and best of luck with the rest of the production!
