Scare Campaign (2016)
Film Review
By the Geezer of Oz
“Popular prank TV show, Scare Campaign, has been entertaining audiences for the last five years with its mix of old school scares and hidden camera fun. But as we enter a new age of online TV, the producers find themselves up against a new hard-edged web series which makes their show look decidedly quaint. It’s time to up the ante.” (IMDb)
This one looked really promising just from the trailer. The film, however, did not quite live up to expectation.
The Australian horror indie from Colin and Cameron Cairnes (100 Bloody Acres) has a great premise and production value is decent.
The cast did a credible job, including familiar faces Meegan Warner (The Veil, The Caretaker), Ian Meadows (Killing Ground), Olivia DeJonge (The Visit, Better Watch Out), Josh Quong Tart (TV’s Underbelly), Cassandra Magrath (Wolf Creek), Steve Mouzakis (I Frankenstein, Sugar Mountain) and veterans John Brumpton (Romper Stomper, Redball, Gettin’ Square, TV’s Underbelly, Last Ride, The Loved Ones, Red Hill, The Hunter) and Sigrid Thornton (The Man from Snowy River, The Lighthorsemen, Whipping Boy, The Pact, TV’s Underbelly, Tv’s The Code, TV’s Wentworth Prison).
While I do think that some of you will find it entertaining and of some value, I was cursed with pretty much predicting where the whole story was going to go and picking any possible twist way ahead of time, so it was a bit boring for me in certain spots.
However, don’t let that sway you and check it out for yourselves, it’s a decent effort. 6/10.
