Who are some of the artists or some of the works that inspired you to get started in your field? Of today’s current artists, who do you draw inspiration from?
I am a big fan of Dario Argento‘s films, I will never forget the first time I saw Suspiria with all that range of colors based on the visual narrative. Gaspar Noé has also been an inspiration to me, I think I still can’t get over his film I Stand Alone (Seul Contre Tous).
Finally, I’ll admit that I would like to one day be able to obtain the cinematographic discipline of Andrzej Zulawski.
What have thus far been some of the negatives of being an indie artist in your field?
I would say that poor distribution capabilities in the country where I live is a negative aspect.
Being a filmmaker in Mexico is much more difficult than being a “narcotraficante” (drug dealer), and that is very sad, because Mexico has a great culture.
What have thus far been the positives of being an indie artist in your field?
The positive aspects are that you can make films, which are true to your philosophy. You answer to no one but yourself!
Another positive aspect is the exposure I have experienced; My film received worldwide distribution and has been viewed by audiences in the United States, as well the United Kingdom.
What have been your favorite completed projects to work on up to this point? Can you tell us a little bit about them?
I have only made a feature film titled Blood for Flesh / Sangre Para La Carne, currently distributed by SRS CINEMA LLC [UPDATE: Since the contract with SRS ended, the film has been with AngerMan Distribution for worldwide online streaming] and TetroVideo Horror Film Distribution (UK). The film was an Official Selection at Macabro Horror Film Festival 2019.
What projects are you currently working on or have planned for the near future?
Currently I have finished a short film that will be a segment in a larger film, but I’m keeping it a secret, until further notice.
I have in mind a faithful adaptation of The Misfortunes Virtue by Marquis de Sade, I’m still working on the script and funding for the project.
Where do you see yourself in a few years and what would it take for you to consider your career a success?
My career would be a success when one of my films is presented at Cannes Film Festival.
Maybe with discipline it won’t take me many years to get there.
If you couldn’t do this anymore, what career path do you think you would have followed and why?
I have a career in design and visual communication, if I don’t do this I won’t do anything else.
