Who are some of the artists or some of the works that inspired you to get started in your field? Of today’s current artists, who do you draw inspiration from?
For me Tom Hanks is the first name that pops into my head (and always has). He represents so many things that hit home for me, he plays so many different roles so well. He is also a wonderful human being.
What have thus far been some of the negatives of being an indie artist in your field?
I typically look for the good in everything, however I have had a few experiences where casting decisions were made by someone without that specific experience and some of the people that were cast did not show up prepared which just makes for a longer day than necessary.
What have thus far been the positives of being an indie artist in your field?
I love what I do, getting cast for anything for me is a positive. Working with others and learning and sharing from them is what I love. Building new working relationships and friendships is a wonderful feeling for me.
What have been your favorite completed projects to work on up to this point? Can you tell us a little bit about them?
I would say one of my favorites is the first film I produced titled 15 Roses. We are just about ready to go to film festivals with it and I loved the experience of producing and acting in this. One of my goals from the film initially was to add lead romantic footage to my reel. However, as we started the process I rapidly changed that goal to becoming “I want everyone involved with this to have a wonderful experience” and I truly believe we were able to do that so far. More fun is planned, but more about that later.
What projects are you currently working on or have planned for the near future?
I recently completed shooting a role in a short film, playing the Angel of Death, and currently have a lead role in a feature film which is just about to begin production. I am also planning to produce two indie feature films this year, one of which is a Christmas comedy and the other is a dark comedy titled Kulectr, which I am co-producing with writer-director Joe Schufreider, currently in pre-production.
Where do you see yourself in a few years and what would it take for you to consider your career a success?
I have had wonderful commercial success and my goals over the next few years are to feel the same about my film work. I have a goal of being a principal on The Hallmark channel and will be pushing hard to find myself with opportunities in that space. Leading to that I plan to produce numerous short films while working with many others as we help each other realize our dreams together.
If you couldn’t do this anymore, what career path do you think you would have followed and why?
Let’s not go there, I was in the corporate world most of my life as a VP of Operations and had a wonderful career. But if I couldn’t do this, I would be in the coaching area helping others.
