The Devils Candy (2015)

Film Review

By the Geezer of Oz

“A struggling painter is possessed by satanic forces after he and his young family move into their dream home in rural Texas, in this creepy haunted-house tale.” (IMDb)

The Devil’s Candy mostly delivers. It is a tense horror thriller, expertly helmed by director Sean Byrne, in his follow-up to 2009’s The Loved Ones.

Helped by great performances from its three leads Ethan Embry (Disturbing Behavior, They, Vacancy, The Guest, Late Phases), Shiri Appleby (TV’s Roswell, Swimfan, Havoc, The Killing Floor, TV’s UnREAL) and Pruitt Taylor Vince (Mississippi Burning, Jacob’s Ladder, JFK, Natural Born Killers, The Cell, Trapped, Identity, Monster, Constantine, Captivity, 13 Sins), as well as guest appearances by Tony Amendola (The Mask of Zorro, The Legend of Zorro, Annabelle) and Leland Orser (Alien: Resurrection, Very Bad Things, The Bone Collector, Daredevil 2003, Taken 1,2,3, The Guest), it is a well above average horror flick.

Definitely worth the 1 hour 20 minutes running time.

Recommended. 7/10.
