The Eyes of My Mother (2016)
Film Review
By the Geezer of Oz
“A young, lonely woman is consumed by her deepest and darkest desires after tragedy strikes her quiet country life.” (IMDb)
This film is not your typical horror film, but WOW!
Both disturbing and hauntingly beautiful, this black and white directorial debut by Nicolas Pesce shows great promise (so much that when I heard that his next production will a another version of The Grudge, I was quite disappointed).
The Eyes of My Mother somehow mixes a sense of nostalgia with dread, emotional warmth with terror and is simply one of the most original pieces I’ve seen in recent times.
The acting is surprisingly perfect for the mood of the film, the soundtrack is haunting and tense and the cinematography is dark but excellent. Do yourself a favour and check this film out ASAP.
Highly recommended! 8.5/10
