Who are some of the artists or some of the
works that inspired you to get started in your field? Of today’s current artists, who do you draw inspiration from?
I came into the industry as a hobby to start. Working as a background extra, I was able to work on set of the show One Tree Hill six times. Watching them work really showed me that acting is what I wanted to do. As far as today, I draw inspiration from any actor who has had a long successful career. That is what I am trying to do.
What have thus far been some of the negatives of being an indie artist in your field?
I love this question! This journey has taught me to stay positive no matter what, so finding negatives is hard for me to do. One thing I would say is the hardest is explaining to people that not all my work ends up easily accessible (TV, theater, or Netflix). Every indie project is different and ends up with different distribution deals. Some people outside of the industry have a hard time understanding that at first. Nothing is guaranteed in this business for sure.
What have thus far been the positives of being an indie artist in your field?
There are too many positives to name them all. I have met and worked with incredible people. I have gotten the chance to travel all over the USA and Canada, whether for filming or for appearances at conventions. The ultimate positive, however, must be gaining happiness from pursuing my passion. Nothing can beat that.
What have been your favorite completed projects to work on up to this point? Can you tell us a little bit about them?
I enjoy every project I am blessed to be a part of; but, two of my recent lead roles come to mind first. In The Haunting of Four Points, I play Evie, a paranormal researcher who gets asked by her cousin to help him investigate for a contest. It was so much fun to film because it was a horror/comedy, so there was a little bit of everything in that one. The second project would be (MyIndie featured artist Chase Dudley‘s) Beasts of the Field, where I play Clarissa. She was a character that made me dig deep to bring her to life. That film is a horror/thriller we shot in the woods in Kentucky in the rain and elements. It was an experience I will never forget.
What projects are you currently working on or have planned for the near future?
I am currently filming a comedy called Jailhouse Wedding, here in North Carolina. It is a crazy comedy and I play the mother of the bride. I am also attached to a few series and feature films set to film this year and next including Rising to Power (drama series), Supernatural Assassins (series), ALLRED (film), Stringer (found footage film), Fruit of the Poisonous Tree (film), and more.
Where do you see yourself in a few years and what would it take for you to consider your career a success?
I hope to continue to do what I am doing. I am blessed that things are going so well for me now. The ultimate success for me would be to make this a career that will continue until I am ready to retire. I may branch out in the future to do some writing but acting will always be my first love.
If you couldn’t do this anymore, what career path do you think you would have followed and why?
When I was offered the role of Officer Bello in The Walking Dead, I was also accepted into the Nursing program at a local college the same week. I had gone back to school after working as an accountant for several years. It was one of those moments I could only pick one path. So, I would probably be in the Nursing field if I wasn’t acting.
